Designing forms
Writing a questionnaire as an XLSForm workbook, the question types and functions Joripo runs, media, datasets and preloads, versions and testing.
A Joripo form is an XLSForm workbook, SurveyCTO-compatible or ODK. Joripo compiles it itself into the XForm that phones, web forms and the tester run, and keeps every version you deploy. You can write the workbook in Excel and upload it, or build and edit it in the browser.
- Forms and XLSFormThe workbook's three sheets, the columns Joripo reads, languages, formatting in labels, and what happens when you upload.
- Question typesEvery type the type column accepts, what each collects, and the few that are accepted but collect nothing.
- Expressions and logicReferring to answers, relevance, constraints, calculations, repeat groups and choice filters, and where Joripo follows SurveyCTO rather than plain XPath.
- Function referenceEvery function Joripo's compiler knows, grouped by what it works on, with where each one runs. Built from the compiler's own table, so it lists exactly what Joripo does.
- AppearancesHow the appearance column changes the way a question is drawn, which of SurveyCTO's appearances Joripo's runtime honours, and which only partly.
- Media and attachmentsImages, audio and video in a form, the files a form carries to the phone, packages of many files, and how file names are matched.
- Server datasets and preloadsTables kept on the server and attached to forms, reading them with pulldata() and search(), the three things a preload needs, and protecting a list that names people.
- Versions and form filesThe form ID and version rules, publishing a new version, the files kept for every version, and deleting and restoring a form.
- Building forms in the browserThe form designer: creating and editing a form without Excel, its question dialog, checks as you type, media upload, and what it does not keep yet. Partly built
- Testing a formThe tester runs the deployed form in your browser on the same engine as phones and web forms, with its logic visible, saved sessions, and optional real submissions.
- Compatibility with SurveyCTO and ODKWhat a SurveyCTO workbook does on Joripo, the differences that remain, what ODK Collect can and cannot run, and what is refused.
