Dashboards

Building a dashboard from a form's variables or by hand, its items, filters and tabs, publishing and sharing it, and downloading it as Excel, CSV, pictures or PDF.

On this page

A dashboard belongs to a monitoring project and shows its indicators, tables and charts over the data now. Joripo draws every chart itself, in your browser, with no charting service involved.

From a form, in one click

Every form on Design has a Dashboard button. The first time a manager presses it, Joripo makes a monitoring project of the form and a dashboard built from its variables, published to the team. It recognises what a field is from its name, or failing that from its label in any of the form's languages (Bangla included): the levels of an area hierarchy (division, district, upazila, union or ward, camp or site, village), the enumerator and supervisor, consent, sex, respondent type or study arm, the visit's outcome, GPS, names and phones. The dashboard has:

  • a Progress tab: interviews, consent, areas reached, per day, per enumerator, the visits' outcomes, the productivity matrix;
  • an Areas tab: counts per level, broken down by respondent type or sex, and a map of the GPS points;
  • an Answers tab: each choice question's counts.

The area levels become filters that narrow each other. Everything made is an ordinary item you can edit. The variables I pick builds items from one, two or three variables: a chart and a table of counts and shares, a two-way table, or a three-way table.

Building by hand

The builder places items by dragging and resizing (or from the keyboard): KPI cards with a target meter and a sparkline, ten chart forms, tables, target trackers, the productivity matrix, quality findings, a map, a tracksheet, and text and headings. Every chart has a table view of its numbers.

  • Two-way tables: rows by one field, columns by another or by day, week or month, with up to four indicators side by side; totals are computed over the merged records (a row's percentage is never an average of its cells). Without columns, a one-way table; with a third field, a three-way table. A multiple-choice question is counted once per option chosen.
  • Colours: fourteen named colours that read in both themes, or one of your own; marks coloured by series, by category, by value bands or against the target, always with a key that says in words what each colour means.
  • Lines across and axes: the target, the overall value, and lines of your own (a benchmark, last round); an axis range of your own; columns and lines on two axes.
  • Filters: the period, and up to twelve choice, range and text filters that narrow each other. A range or text filter over a protected answer is refused, because it would find one respondent's answer.
  • Layout: up to twelve tabs under the same filters, item widths from 1 to 12 columns, heights of your own, comfortable or compact spacing.

A dashboard can be copied to another monitoring project, or downloaded as a template file (definitions only: no data, no credentials) and started from again, here or on another Joripo server. What it needs (indicators, derived variables, targets, rules, map layers) comes with it.

Who sees a dashboard

  • A dashboard is seen by the workspace's team once it is published; until then it is a draft its managers see.
  • Someone the workspace was shared with sees it only when it is also shared with external clients and their access includes quality; drilling into records also needs access to data.
  • Beyond Joripo accounts, a dashboard's Share page offers anyone with the link (a link you can switch off or renew, so the old address stops working), which shows the counts, charts and tables with every protected answer, name, phone, address and GPS point hidden and no record to open; and people by email, each with a link of their own confirmed by a six-digit code sent to that address or by their Joripo sign-in. A person invited by email may be allowed to see names and phones. These outside pages are never cached, never indexed and send no referrer, and every share, removal and link change is recorded.

Email for sharing needs the server's maintainer to configure a mail service (SMTP, Resend or Brevo). Without one, the invitation link is shown for you to send yourself. Sharing a dashboard is the only thing Joripo sends email for.

Downloads and printing

  • the whole dashboard as an Excel workbook: an "About" sheet with the period, the filters, when it was computed and the last sync, then a sheet per item, numbers as numbers;
  • each item's numbers as CSV;
  • a chart as a PNG picture, with its title, legend and colour key;
  • PDF through the browser's print window ("Save as PDF"), from a page made for paper: the open tab, or every tab, each starting a page.

Downloads are built from exactly what the page shows, so they are masked as the viewer sees the data.
